The journal publishes research that explains living systems, their organization, function, diversity, evolution, and interactions. Questions may range from molecular mechanisms and cellular processes to organisms, populations, communities, and ecosystems.Hypothesis-driven experiments, field and observational studies, computation, biological methods, omics, and integrative work are welcome. Biotechnology, synthetic and structural biology, and translational research fit when the primary contribution advances biological knowledge.Contributions should establish biological significance, report methods and evidence transparently, and keep conclusions proportionate to the data.
