Journal Overview

The journal focuses specifically on the science and technology of energy resources, devices, conversion pathways, storage, networks, and sustainable systems.

Intended readership: Energy scientists, engineers, materials researchers, power specialists, modellers, and sustainability researchers.

Aims & Scope

It publishes research across solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, bioenergy, hydrogen, fuel cells, thermal energy, conversion technologies, storage, batteries, supercapacitors, and energy materials.

Power systems, grids, microgrids, smart grids, power electronics, renewable integration, hybrid systems, efficiency, modelling, lifecycle analysis, and decarbonization technologies are included. Economics fits when integrated with technical energy analysis.

Manuscripts must deliver energy-specific knowledge; general engineering designs without a central energy question are better directed to Contemporary Engineering and Technology.

Subject Coverage

Use these areas to judge whether the manuscript’s central contribution belongs in this journal.

  • Solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and bioenergy
  • Hydrogen and fuel cells
  • Batteries, supercapacitors, and storage
  • Energy materials
  • Conversion and thermal systems
  • Power systems and electronics
  • Grids and microgrids
  • Renewable integration
  • Energy efficiency
  • Energy modelling
  • Lifecycle analysis
  • Decarbonization technologies

Methods & Approaches

Methods should suit the research question. These common approaches are illustrative, not artificial requirements.

  • Device experiments
  • Materials characterization
  • Techno-scientific modelling
  • Grid simulation
  • System optimization
  • Degradation testing
  • Lifecycle analysis

Interdisciplinary interfaces

  • Energy with materials
  • Power engineering
  • Energy systems with computing
  • Energy and sustainability

Scope Boundaries

Editors assess each manuscript as a whole. The following are generally outside scope unless a clear substantive contribution is established:

  • General engineering without a central energy contribution
  • Economic or policy commentary without technical analysis
  • Performance claims lacking controls, validation, or energy relevance

Article Types

Availability is confirmed during submission and may vary. No universal length or item limits are implied.

Original Research Article

A complete original study with methods, evidence, limitations, and discipline-appropriate conclusions.

Review Article

A critical, structured synthesis that advances understanding of a defined topic.

Short Communication / Brief Report

A focused original contribution whose significance can be established concisely.

Methods / Methodology Article

A validated method, workflow, instrument, computational approach, or analytical advance.

Perspective / Commentary

Evidence-informed analysis of a significant development or direction; unsupported opinion is unsuitable.
