The Future of Open and Data-Driven Biology
Abstract
Biological sciences are experiencing an unprecedented transformation driven by advances in data generation, computational technologies, and open scientific collaboration. The emergence of large-scale biological datasets, artificial intelligence, high-throughput sequencing, and multi-omics technologies has shifted biology from a primarily observational discipline toward a data-intensive science. At the same time, the global movement toward open science has increased access to data, methodologies, software, and research outputs. Together, these developments are redefining how biological research is conducted, validated, and disseminated. This editorial discusses the convergence of open science and data-driven biology, explores current opportunities and challenges, and highlights their implications for the future of biological discovery.
